OCCICEM describes occupation as coded from original string values by the Integrated Census Microdata (I-CeM) project of the University of Essex. I-CeM uses the occupational classification systems from the original census reports for 1851 to 1911 produced by the General Register Offices of London and Edinburgh.

For more information, see documentation available on the I-CeM project website.

OCCICEM is comparable across the Great Britain samples. OCCICEM is not available for Scotland 1851.
