Description
This variable was created by the 1881 British census project. It indicates whether there was any indication in the occupation string that the given individual was retired. Users should be aware that because this information was not systematically collected it understates the true population of people who are retired from work.
Comparability
This variable is only available in Great Britain. The Canadian census of 1901 enquired RETIRED which indicated the retirement status of persons with gainful calling or occupations. The variable OCSTATUS contains similar information.
