OC1TRDNO classifies a person's occupation, and describes the industrial sector within which it occurs. The sectors broadly correspond to primary, secondary and tertiary sectors.
Information on the social status of an occupation is contained in the variable OC1HIRNO.
If a second occupation was stated, this may be classified as well in the variables OC2HIRNO and OC2TRDNO.
Comparability
This variable is only available in Norway. Note that the "Unknown" and the "No occupation" category labels are used interchangeably. In Norway 1900, the "Unknown" category includes persons age 15 and below, whereas, in Norway 1865 and Norway 1875 the "No occupation" category includes persons below age 15.
