Comparability
NUMPERHH is constructed by the Minnesota Population Center staff.
Users should note that the British census of 1881 was a de facto census, and Norway 1875 and 1900 use both the de facto and de jure rules. All other censuses in the current release were de jure censuses. In de facto censuses, individuals are enumerated at their location on census night. By contrast, de jure censuses enumerate individuals at their permanent residence, even if they were not physically there for the enumeration day.
This may affect NUMPERHH in families and households where some members are periodically absent, for example, because of their occupation.
