NSIBS
Number of own siblings in household

Description

NSIBS counts the number of the person's own siblings (including half- siblings) living in the household with her/him. NSIBS is generally based on information contained in RELATE (Relationship to household head). Persons with no siblings present are coded "0."

Comparability

This variable is comparable for all countries, but see the discussion on Family Interrelationships for discussion of these NAPP constructed variables.

No constructed family interrelationship variables are available for the Canadian censuses of 1852, 1871, and 1881, Mecklenburg-Schwerin census of 1819, as relationship to household head is not available in these samples.
