Description
NCHLT10 counts the number of the person's own children under age 10 living in the household with her/him. These include all children linked to the person via MOMLOC/MOMRULE or POPLOC/POPRULE. NCHLT10 includes step-children and adopted children as well as biological children. Persons with no children under 10 present are coded "0".
Comparability
This variable is comparable for all countries, but see the discussion on Family Interrelationships for discussion of these NAPP constructed variables.
No constructed family interrelationship variables are available for the Canada censuses of 1852, 1871, and 1881 and the 1819 census of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, as information on relationship to household head is unavailable in these samples. Future releases of NAPP will include imputed versions of these variables, similar to the IMPMOM, IMPPOP, and IMPSP in IPUMS-USA.
